Northwest of Downtown is where the section of historic neighborhoods that dates back to the late 1800s. Located in Houston, Texas “The Heights” is often referred to colloquially to describe a large collection of neighborhoods.
When Houston Heights was founded, it was a streetcar suburb of Houston that attracted people who did not wish to live in the dense city. It had its municipality. According to the U.S. Census of 1900, about 800 people lived in the Heights. Because the city government had difficulty collecting sufficient taxes, the community decided to be annexed and the City of Houston annexed the Heights in 1919.

Bike Rides
The Heights Hike and Bike trail runs along Nicholson Street and connects to Downtown and the White Oak Hike and Bike Trail. This is one of the most popular outdoor activities for Heights residents that enjoy running, riding, or simply going on an evening stroll. Most residents in the Heights live within walking distance or a short bike ride away. In an urban setting like the Heights, the Hike and Bike trail helps the neighborhood enjoy the outdoors and explore the city.
