The Houston Museum of Natural Science was established in 1909 by the Houston Museum and Scientific Society. Located on the northern border of Hermann Park in Houston, Texas this museum aims to provide a free institution for the Houstonians focusing on science and education. Museum attendance has over two million visitors each year and the museum consists of the central facility in four-story exhibit areas and halls. Cockrell Butterfly Center and the Burke Baker Planetarium is one of the most visited galleries in the museum.
The Museum is one of the most popular in the United States ad has been ranked below New York’s American Museum of Natural History and Metropolitan Museum of Art in San Francisco as most visited amongst all non-Smithsonian Museum.
The museum’s primary collection was acquired between 1914 and 1930. It includes the purchase of a non-history collection assembled by Henry Philemon Attwater as well as a donation from John Milsaps. Its fists housed Houston City’s auditorium and also the Central Library for seven years.

Planetarium
Opened in 1964 the Burke Baker Planetarium has been presenting astronomical programs to millions of visitors from different school organizations to the general public. The planetarium has been upgraded and now features Digistar 6 that enables the visitors to fly through the universe, roam planetary surfaces, and experience the vastness of space.
